Grant National Historic Site St. President died in 1919 at age 60, while Edith continued to live in the home until passing away at age 87 in 1948. In 1961, following the end of his second term, Ike and Mamie retired to their Gettysburg home. Garfield National Historic Site Mentor, Ohio; nps.
This is not necessarily the state in which the president was born. But that's due more to the outlook of presidents, not boards. Presidents including the state with which each was primarily affiliated, due to residence, professional career, and electoral history. The property also had a working farm, ranch, and, in keeping with the times, extensive slave quarters.
Former Presidents Act - In 1858, the estate was falling apart and was bought by the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, who still own and maintain it. Call or check the park's website for scheduled events at a particular park.
